(1829-1895) |
Joseph Henry Clampett
• He emigrated to Australia about 1848. • Fact 1: Warden of Catholic Church, Burrowa, New South Wales, Australia. Burrowa was a predominantly Irish catholic settlement, it was called the 'Tipperary of Australia", so the Church played a very important social role in the community and town life. • He worked as a Shopkeeper after 1848 in New South Wales, Australia. Joseph always kept a store of some kind, early on he was the manager at various branches of a chain of drapery stores (this was in the gold rush times so stores were very lucrative businesses). He owned the drapery store in Burrowa (which is now spelled Boorowa), having bought the business from the owner of the chain he had previously worked for. Joseph married Ellen Nowlan on 17 Jun 1864 in Burrowa, New South Wales, Australia. (Ellen Nowlan was born on 21 Apr 1845 in Australia and died on 30 Apr 1880 in Australia.) |
