LCDR C.S. Lewis, Native of Lysite, Retires from Navy Riverton (Wyo.) Ranger Wednesday, November 30, 1960
Retirement ceremonies were held September 30 on the carrier Kearsarge for Lt. Commander Charles Swaim Lewis, son of Mrs. W.I. Lewis and the late Mr. Lewis. His last day in the Navy was "Dependents Day" and Commander Lewis, a staff officer, had as his guests his wife, the former Alice Jeanne Hoover and his elder daughter, Miss Marcia Lewis. Officers and guests were served luncheon in Admiral Townsend's quarters, with cake baked in Cmd.. Lewis' honor featured on the menu. Cade decorations included the figures, 1936-1960. Among his gifts were a silver cigarette case and a Stetson hat. Admiral Townsend also made a short speech commending him. The retirement ceremony was held on the flight deck, at the conclusion of which he was "piped off," with four LCDRs as his side boys. Lewis was born in Lysite, Wyo. He attended school there and in Thermopolis, Shoshoni and Casper, graduating from Natrona Co. High School in 1935. He was an electronics officer during his time in the Naval Air Corps, had served on the staff of Chief of Naval Air Reserves at Glenview, Ill., the staff of the commander of the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean and the staff of the Commander of the 17th Carrier anti-submarine patrol in American, European and African waters. He is now living with his wife and their daughters Marcia and Linda in Santa Ana, California.
