Following information from "Moore- Millican Memoirs" by Elma Lou Maxwell:

Stephen R. Moore was too old to be in the Army during the Civil War, and had four sons in the Confederate Army. He was taken prisoner by the Union Army because he would not swear allegiance to the Union cause. He was forced to repair guns for the Union Army, and died in prison at Alton, Illinois April 23, 1863.
