Coached a team on the eastern shore of Virginia. Was an avid gardener. During his younger years he was active in the methodist church in Greenbush Virginia.

His sister Jenny Woodward was also living on Bladensburg Road with her two children and her brother Harry and sister Lottie. She was a widow and her next door neighbor was Benjamin Loor. The Loor family were good friends of the Clampitts.
