Was 20 years old when both parents died of pneumonia within five days of each other in Mt. Sterling in 1867.

These census records show how difficult it can be to follow a family by using only the census. When I contacted the family, Herbert turned out to be Robert. Ottaway was never called Oliver and John Baun was never shown with them. Also Otis in 1910 had to be Earl 1 year old old in 1900.
Ottaway had a crippled hand, the result of an accident with a hay knife as a young man, leaving him with only one finger and a thumb. I wonder how they traveled , they surely did it a lot. Ottaway born in IN, married in IL, second child in KS, third in TX, fourth and fifth in KS, sixth in MO, back to TX in 1910 and the to OK where they died.
In 1870 census he was living with brother John and his wife Alice in Springfield, IL.

Ottaway married Lucy Jeanette Gardner about 1870 in Illinois, Sangamon, Springfield. (Lucy Jeanette Gardner was born on 16 Mar 1854 in New York City, NY, died on 26 Mar 1938 in Oklahoma, Cotton, Temple and was buried in Oklahoma, Cotton, Temple, Temple Cemetery.)
