Obituary - Huntington, IN. Herald-Press - Monday, April 7, 1924
Huffman, H. Ray
H. Ray Huffman twenty-eight years of age, ended his life some time Saturday afternoon by firing a bullet into his heart, in the store room of the Eickenberry garage in Warren, of which he was the proprietor.
Ira Eickenberry, his father-in-law, found the body at 5:45 and Frank Collins, town Marshall, indicated that death had occurred only a short time before the discovery.
The search for Huffman was started when he failed to appear at supper time. Huffman, the father of three children, had apparently no motive for the act and it is believed that mental dearrangement and despondency was the cause for the deed. It is said that he had been acting queer for several days but a customer that bought a tire from him at noon Saturday, stated that he saw nothing unusual in his apperance or action. It could not be learned when he procured the revolver or how long he had carried it. Workmen were in the shop when the shot was fired but none of them heard the report.
Surviving relatives are the wife, formerly Miss Rena B. Eickenberry, three children, all under six years of age, mother Mrs. Martha Oakley, 508 North Jefferson street, Huntington, two brothers, Donald of this city and Roy of Ohio, a half-brother, James Oakley of this cith and one sister Helen.
The body was taken to the home where it will remain until the hour of the funeral services. No arrangements have been made for the services.
