Huffman, Fred G., 79, of East Central Ave. died at 8:25 a.m. today in Wells Community Hospital, where he had been a patient the past two weeks. Mr. Huffman was born Feb. 17, 1899 in a small house at the northeast corner of Main St. and Wiley Ave. to Albert and Rena Ulmer Huffman. Huffman, as well as his father, entered military service. Mr. Huffman was in the U. S. Army Air Service, the forerunner to the AAry Air Corps and the present Air Force. He trained as an aerial gunner in addition to becoming a telegrapher in service. In World War II, Mr. Huffman, at age 43, volunteered services again and was assigned to supervising welders in the Seabees, the Navy's vital construction unit. He served under enemy fire on Guadalcanal and other places in the Pacific Theatre over a 26-month span before return to the U. S. for health reasons and Seabee work in the states until discharge in 1945. Mr. Huffman's marriage to Margaret Lehman, who survives, was on Sept. 16, 1953 at Star City, Ind. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge and American Legion Post III, of which he was a past commander. Surviving, in addition to the wife, are one son, William F. Huffman of Bluffton; one brother, Joseph Huffman, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Anne Reed, both of Bluffton. Calling is after 10 a.m. Sunday at Thoma-Rich Funeral Home, where services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday with Dr. Philip Hazelton officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery,
