Obituary - November 1908 Mrs. Scott Huffman Dies After Brief Illness At Her Home North Of Town Friday Violet Lucretia Weaver, was born September 17, 1873, and departed this life November 6, 1908, aged 35 years, 1 month and 19 days. Of her parents and her early life but little is known. She was left an orphan at a very tender age and together with a twin sister, found an excellent home in the family of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Williamson, who were in reality almost the only parents she ever knew, and for whom she always cherished the warmest feeling. She remained in this home for about fifteen years, or until the day before Thanksgiving Day, 1895, when she was united in marriage to Mr. Scott Huffman, a neighbor boy, and one with whom she had been acquainted for years. To this union three children were born, Everett, Leo and Harry, and these motherless children, together with the husband and the sister, Mrs. Fred Stahl, are, with the exception of two half-brothers who reside in Ft. Wayne, the only surviving relatives of the deceased. While she had but few relatives, she was rich in the possession of a vast circle of neighbors and friends, and it is not known that she had an enemy in the world. At the early age of 12 years she united with the U. B. church at Mt. Zion, and retained her membership there as long as she resided in that neighborhood. She was one of those lovable, generous characters, who always seemed to think of everyone else's comfort and happiness rather than her own, and there is no doubt in our mind but that the Great Teacher who said "A cup of cold water given in His name should not lose its reward," will remember and reward her for her many acts of sweet unselfishness. The angel of death gave her but little warning. Apparently in the best of health and spirits on Sunday the grim messenger called for her the following Friday. Owing to the fact that death was caused by a contagious disease a public funeral was considered inadvisable and only a short service was held at the home, conducted by Rev. Aaron Moss. Interment in the Jones cemetery near Batson Bridge.
Leaves have their time to fall, And flowers to wither at the north wind's breath; And stars to set, but thou hast all, All seasons for thine own, O, Death.
