Walt's Boy
As a young man Walters son Charles expressed a desire to become a minister of the Gospel. Walter having been injured in the Civil War felt he did not have the money to pay for the necessary schooling. Young Charles persisted and talked to a neighbor man. The neighbor seeing how earnest he was about this matter consented to pay for the schooling with one condition. The condition was that each time Charles converted a soul he was to pay $ 1.00 back to him on the debt. It has been said that it took Charles only a few years to pay back every cent. In 1902 was pastor of Disciple Church in Chicago IL. Later he served as pastor of Englewood Christian Church for 40 years in Chicago also. The church has since been sold and renamed. His tombstone inscription read "Walt's Boy."
