He worked as a Principal of "School of Commerce and Domestic Economy" in Ireland. My Lord Mayor, Mr Principal, Very Reverend and Rev. Fathers, Ladies and Gentlemen
I wish to thank you, My Lord Mayor, for the kind welcome which in the name of the City Vocational Education Committee you have given me this morning. The occasion allows me publicly to express my appreciation of the good work done, within the limits of the Vocational Education system as it exists, by your Committee, by the Principals and Staffs of all the Schools and by the Department of Education, for this City and Diocese. The Institute which to-day I have had the privilege of Blessing has won for itself a position not merely of credit, but of distinction among the Schools of the City. That honour, I am happy to declare, is in great part due to the guidance of the Principal, Mr Clampett. For years he has directed this School of Commerce and Domestic Economy with dignity of firmness and especially, with reverence for high principle and genuine scholarship. I ought to know how much the co-operation of a worthy Staff is required to aid the ideals of a Principal. Mr Clampett has been favoured by the collaboration of a devoted Staff, among them the Priests who conduct the courses of Religious Instruction. By reason of my office as Archbishop, it is the aspect of religious knowledge and life which primarily concerns me. I trust that the bless-ing of God involved upon this Institute may cause it to prosper in the development which is promised to its work. In the prayers of the Church we have asked that they who teach may be filled with the spirit of knowledge, of wisdom and of respect for God. In the same prayers we have interceded that they who learn may be filled with the grace of God, to the end that what they have been duly taught they may intelligently understand, faithfully remember and in practice execute. We have thus set before us an ideal of learning and docility, a work of patience and of sanctity. May the grace of God, through the merits of Our Divine Redeemer and the intercession of Our Lady, rest on this Institute, to the honour of His name.
