Lou wa brought up on talk of the Civil War since both her grandfather Noble and her father fought for the Northern side. Therefore, Lou was for the North - they could do no wrong and the Southerners could do no right. Lou carried strong likes and dislikes - I think she was either for or against you - no middle of the road for her. She had strong convinctions - liked the Republicans and was opposed to the Democrats.

Lou liked little boys - tolerated little girls. However, she has said she didn't like men and wondered how she ever got married. But I wouldn't know her exact ideas on this subject. She loved to play cards and was good at bridge and canasta.

I believe Lou Noble Edwards came close to adoring her son Fred. She stood by him and would tolerate nothing that was said against him. However, she knew his short comings, and would admit them to me - yet it was best not to talk against him to her. Mother like - she protected her child whenever possible.

Lou is an ideal mother-in-law since she never talks against anything her son does. She may not agree with what we do, yet she never voices an objection to me or to Fred. She would give up her last cent to her son gladly and never ask what he does with it. (Mrs. Mary Jane Jennings Edwards)
